My Experience

The power of family therapy first became apparent to me while working at the Renfrew Center, where I treated women recovering from eating disorders and other compulsive behaviors. I saw firsthand how even a single session with a family member could meaningfully improve a patient's wellbeing and support their recovery.

Over the years, I continued to invite family members into the therapeutic process, working with mothers and adult daughters, parents and adult children, siblings, and even roommates. I came to appreciate just how deeply our wellbeing is shaped by the relationships around us. We don't develop, struggle, or heal in a vacuum.

Sometimes family therapy provides a space to finally say the things that have gone unsaid. Other times, it offers an opportunity to resolve longstanding conflicts, develop healthier ways of supporting one another, or establish boundaries that allow relationships to flourish. At its heart, family therapy is about understanding the ways we affect one another and creating the possibility for meaningful change.
